Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy is another treatment that was specifically developed to help people with symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). More recently, there is evidence that it also helps people recover from other conditions, such as anxiety problems, grief, and depression. EMDR is ideally suited to anyone who has experienced traumatic or abusive experiences in childhood or adult life. Traumatic experience could be a single-event, like a car accident, or complex multiple traumas over the course of a life. I am also happy to say I can now deliver EMDR as an Online Therapy / Virtual Therapy option with the help of some specialised software. Therefore, it is possible to receive this state-of-the art treatment from the comfort of your own home!

When someone has experienced a traumatic event, it is common they can experience a strong sense of feeling agitated and on edge, and very vulnerable. Additionally, flashback memories or nightmares about a difficult event can occur frequently, causing one to 're-experience' the event as if it's happening again. It is natural that people will develop various coping strategies to be able to deal with these overwhelming symptoms, including avoiding situations or people that may remind them of the traumatic event.
EMDR enables the brain to reprocess the traumatic event in a safe, supportive environment so that you can be free of the traumatic nature of the memories. The memories can still be recalled afterward, but will no longer come with emotional distress. The benefit is you can reclaim your life and move forward, being unhindered by challenging events from your past.
