Hello, I'm Matthew Morgan. I am a psychotherapist offering individual and group sessions both in-person and online in Greater Manchester, England. I have 18 years of work experience in the NHS mental health services.

 

My perspective is that each of us is essentially whole and that the job of psychological therapy is to work out the nature of a person's emotional struggle and to restore them to wholeness. 

Whichever psychological approach is adopted, the therapeutic relationship is at the heart of the recovery process. Therefore, my style is to establish a warm and friendly environment in which difficulties can be explored and resolved gradually. 

Once, we embark on a process together in which obstacles to recovery are identified - such as behavioural habits, unhelpful thinking patterns or disturbing memories, and we gradually develop insights into the problem, the process must be grounded in a strong therapeutic relationship. Therefore, I aim to put clients at ease as soon as possible so we can work collaboratively on understanding specific negative patterns of behaviour and unhelpful thinking. 

I believe that every person is essentially whole at their core and capable of living a rich, rewarding life, but sometimes there are obstacles in our way, preventing us from moving forward in our desired direction. Psychotherapy can provide us with the opportunity to work through the obstacles, restore us to wellbeing and enjoy a more fulfilling life. 

I have significant experience working with people struggling with symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) following a traumatic or abusive life experience. I have counselled people facing various transitions in life, whether overcoming alcohol dependence, bereavement, relationship breakdown, or facing the development of long term medical conditions.

Mindfulness is an approach designed to discover an inner calm, clarity, and objectivity with reference to present circumstances.

 

Mindfulness sessions are offered in individual and group formats.

I have several years of experience offering supervision to CBT therapists and counsellors. Both qualified and trainee psychotherapists may contact me for more information. 

Individual therapy approaches offered include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), and Counselling. Therapy can be face to face, and also Online Therapy (including EMDR).

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) workshops are offered on Worry, Insomnia, Assertiveness, and more.
